Welcome to Jan Solo: A Cycling Story!
My name is Jan, and together with my travelling buddy Chewie I will be riding my bicycle across the United States of America between April and October 2020. I’ll start in San Francisco and finish my cross country ride in Halifax, Canada. You will find everything you want to know about my journey right here on this blog! Happy reading 🙂

About myself
I live in Brussels, Belgium, and among lots of other stuff, I like to travel by bicycle. I completed my first real tour back in 2011, when I cycled around Great-Britain for about 8 weeks. A couple of years later, me and my girlfriend at the time made our way across a big chunk of Europe during a great 5-month journey, but my biggest dream in terms of cycling has always been to ride my bike across the US. I have been saving some money for a while, and I quit my job recently. It’s about time to scrap this item of my bucket list.
About this blog
I’ve never held a blog during my previous cycling adventures, so why do so now? First, I like to write but I rarely take the time to do so. This blog will be a good excuse to take some time off the bike to put my thoughts on paper. Second, I will be away for quite a while and my family and friends have urged me to keep them up to date. Third, there is Laughing At My Nightmare.
Laughing At My Nightmare
Laughing At My Nightmare is a non-profit organisation, founded by Shane Burcaw in 2011. Shane has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (or SMA), a neuro-muscular disease causing his muscles to slowly waste away over time. He started a blog and a non-profit with the same name, with the goal of spreading a message of positivity while providing equipment grants to those living with muscular dystrophy. He has reached over half a million followers on his blog, and provided equipment grants worth more than 60k $ in 2019 alone. I asked him to be a LAMN-ambassador during my 6-month journey and try to help him and Sarah raise awareness, and if possible some funding, for their wonderful organisation.
If you like this blog and would like to make a contribution of any kind, you can do so by supporting my fundraiser for LAMN.
